Hounslow Complete Beat the Street 2015

Presentations of trophies and prize funds for the winners of the Beat the Street Hounslow competition have been held this week.

Set the goal of ditching the car and walking, cycling and running on a collective journey around the earth for six weeks, Hounslow rose to the challenge and its 11,000 participants walked a grand total of 39,286 miles.

GP Referral Programme begins in South Somerset

Inactive people in and around three South Somerset communities are taking part in new programme led by South Somerset District Council.

The ‘Click into Activity’ project is one of only sixteen nationally to receive investment from Sport England’s Get Healthy, Get Active fund which aims to get inactive people moving.

Intelligent Health are providing the integrated website, app, smartcard platform and training which supports inactive members of the public to become active via referral and support through their GP practices.

Beat the Street Epic in Athens

The municipalities of Marousi, Iraklion and Kallithea, have completed a 6 week Beat the Street programme, from 26 October – 6 December.

Residents played the game to reduce pollution; free up streets from traffic and get active.

Beat The Street was brought to Greece for the first time by Harokopio University of Athens and funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation. Twenty-two thousand two hundred and thirty three Athenians travelled over 129,000 miles in 6 weeks.

EU Switch Review, Beat the Street praised

Intelligent Health was in Cologne last week for one of the final EU SWITCH consortium meetings where preliminary results of Beat the Street projects in Gdansk and Hounslow were shared, the Toolkit reviewed and finalised and preparations will be made for the final SWITCH conference in Bremen, Germany on 14th April 21016. Twenty-three ‘Follower Cities’ will be invited and the conference will be of interest to anyone seeking new ways to address ways of reducing carbon emissions, enhancing health and innovating in this field.

Physical activity is most important health intervention

Dr William Bird, MBE was the Keynote speaker at the Get physical – be active, stay healthy conference held on Wednesday 9 December 2015 in Oxford. The event explored how to encourage NHS staff and patients to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives.

This conference fits with the ‘NHS 5-year Forward View’ which stresses the importance of NHS staff health and wellbeing on improving the health of NHS staff.

Beat the Street heads to the United Arab Emirates

Intelligent Health are attending the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health conference in Sharjah and Dubai as part of Innovation Week for the UAE from 21-28 November.

A prototype of Beat the Street is being considered for roll out in the United Arab Emirates.
