Val’s Lambhill Walking Group is nominated for Volunteer Group of the Year
Beat the Street’s programme manager for Scotland has been recognised for her work in helping to get people active.
Val Caldwell runs the Beat the Street games across the country, such as the recent Beat the Street Forth and Clyde and Beat the Street East Renfrewshire games which have seen tens of thousands of people walk, run, cycle, run, scoot and wheel around their local communities.
In her spare time, she also forms part of the Lambhill Walking Group who were nominated for the title of ‘Volunteer Group of the Year’ at the Path’s For All Volunteer Awards last week.
The judges said: “We would like to nominate the Lambhill Walking Group as we believe the health walk leaders are worthy of the ‘Health walk of the Year’ award.
“They have shown commitment, dedication, and drive to keep things going during a very difficult time. Pamela, health walk leader, along with Eileen, Val and Balwinder who were regular walkers at Lambhill but came forward to do the walk leader training at short notice to keep the walk going when two of our long-standing leaders took ill.
“It was all very sudden and upsetting, and we went from having three leaders to one. They have all been an asset to the health walk programme, and not only kept the walk going, but did so with positive energy, humour and compassion keeping the close-knit group together.”
