Case Study – Churchfield Primary School, Edmonton
Pictured left is Darryl Morgan, a year 5 teacher at Churchfield Primary School, along with students Maya and Valeri.
Darryl used the motivation he found from Beat the Street to use his bike more and drive his car less. After the game began, he decided to bike to work every day, discovering different routes to find Beat Boxes and explore different parts of Edmonton.
Darryl has travelled 900 miles, mostly by bike and some walking. Visiting every Beat Box in Edmonton! He has been a wonderful advocate for Beat the Street, sharing the message with the children at Churchfield, about how important exercise is for our bodies, mental health, and wellbeing.
He helped to inspire students at Churchfield, all of whom have enjoyed gaining team points for the school. We awarded him a Beattie soft toy, which will sit on his desk as a reminder to stay active!
Darryl shared, “Beat the Street has encouraged me to take more time to exercise and has made me realise that I do have time to be active. I feel physically fitter and it definitely puts me in a better mood. I have enjoyed cycling through the parks in Edmonton and have seen events going on that I might get involved in once the game has finished, like the parkrun in Pymmes Park. When I was tapping my card people asked me what I was doing. It was nice to share the message with them and answer their questions. Lots of people were keen to take part themselves.”
