The ground-breaking success of Beat the Street in Annan and Dalbeattie has been recognised by the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities after it received a special COSLA Excellence Award this week.
Beat the Street took place in Annan and Dalbeattie on behalf of Dumfries & Galloway Council in Autumn 2015. The campaign surpassed expectations with 36% of the population in Dalbeattie and 39% in Annan take part in the physical activity challenge.
Representatives from Dumfries & Galloway Council as well as Intelligent Health CEO and Founder — Dr William Bird — collected the Special “Beat Team” COSLA Award at a ceremony in Crieff on 6 October.
The COSLA Excellence Awards celebrate projects that are making a real and meaningful difference to people’s quality of life in communities in Scotland.
Speaking about receiving the award, Dr William Bird — CEO and Founder of Intelligent Health — said: “Intelligent Health is incredibly proud of Beat the Street in Annan and Dalbeattie which saw a record number of people pick up a card and play. It is a great honour for COSLA to recognise the initiative and the powerful impact it has had for residents in both communities.”
Following the success of the initiative in Annan & Dalbeattie, Intelligent Health is currently delivering Beat the Street in Stranraer where more than a third of local residents have taken part in the community-health game in the first five weeks.
