PACC – Physical Activity Clinical Champions

Supporting healthcare professionals to empower patients to move more.

About PACC

PACC (Physical Activity Clinical Champions) is a nationally recognised programme that equips healthcare professionals with the confidence, skills and knowledge to have meaningful, person-centered conversations about physical activity.

At Intelligent Health, we are supporting the Place-Based Approach to PACC, which helps embed physical activity into everyday clinical practice across local health systems. This tailored approach focuses on addressing local priorities, ensuring advice on movement is both relevant and impactful.

In June 2023, a consortium consisting of Sheffield Hallam University, The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and Intelligent Health was established by Sport England to help find a financially sustainable way forward for PACC. Through Sheffield Hallam’s co-design workshops, the idea of a Place-based approach to PACC emerged. Intelligent Health are leading on this work stream, helping to found new Place-based PACC pilot sites across the country.

Place-based approach to PACC

Place-based Physical Activity Clinical Champions (PACCs) will collaborate closely with their host organisations and the central PACC team. Together, they will build relationships with local and regional stakeholders and organisations, establish a local online community of practice, and encourage healthcare professionals in their place to continue enhancing their knowledge and skills.

Five places have begun building a place-based model that supports their priorities.
