As we celebrate National Walking Month, it’s the perfect time to highlight the incredible benefits of playing Beat the Street. Not only does it encourage physical activity but also brings communities together in a fun and engaging way.

Beat the Street is more than just a game; it’s a movement that motivates people to get active by walking, cycling, or wheeling around their neighbourhoods. The benefits of participating in Beat the Street extend far beyond just increasing daily steps. Players experience improved physical fitness, mental well-being, and a sense of community connection.

In light of National Walking Month, the stats speak for themselves. Throughout May, we expect 15,000 players of Beat the Street in our active games across Featherstone, South Derbyshire and Maldon to collectively walk, wheel or cycle, an impressive 86,320 miles. These miles not only contribute to a healthier and more active community but also showcase the power of coming together to achieve a common goal.

Looking back at the 34 games that took place in 2022 and 2023, Beat the Street shows significant positive outcomes on physical activity and wellbeing.

The proportion of adults who were inactive, doing less than 30 minutes of activity a week, fell by 8.2% after playing Beat the Street. Children who are less active, doing less than an average of 30 minutes a day, as a proportion fell by 6.4 %.

In 2023 across 11 games, adult wellbeing, measured by asking people to rate how satisfied they are with their life nowadays on a scale from 0 to 10, increased by an average of +0.6.

By simply playing the game, individuals are taking proactive steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

So, whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game, every step taken brings us closer to a healthier, more active community. Join the movement, lace up your shoes, and let’s walk, cycle, or wheel our way to better health together.
